Don't Sign Off On Your Floor Plans Before Reading This!

If you don't have experience building or renovating, reading a floor plan can be overwhelming especially when you are working through the home design, window placement, electrical plans, kitchen, bathroom fittings and different design finishes.

It's easy to get caught up in how the house will look at the end and spend hours scrolling through Pinterest and Instagram and as exciting as the finished result is, I recommend you put the same energy into initial floor plan stage to avoid neglecting things that can't be changed easily or cheaply down the track.

Here are some things to consider when you are at floor plan stage of building or renovating:

1. I recommend as priority you invest in an Accredited Feng Shui Consultant (Me).

Why involve a Feng Shui Consultant during planning stages? There are many critical points that I cover with you and your builder during the planning process ensuring that your home supports your health, wealth & happiness. One of the many components from a Feng Shui perspective is establishing the facing direction that the house will face which then allows me to gauge the energy map of the home.

This energy map allows me to advise you of the best placement of:

  • Front door & external doors

  • Windows

  • Kitchen - oven, fridge & sinks

  • Bathroom - toilet, shower, bath & basins

  • Laundry - washing machine & sink

2. A Wide Entry Hall & Statement door

Having a wider entry with a larger door provides a space for the Qi (energy) to settle before it meanders through your home. If space doesn't allow there are other ways we can ensure the Qi has a lovely area to settle.

3. High Ceilings

Choosing to have high ceilings gives you the feeling of space. Your home may be modest in size, but will feel spacious with a higher ceiling.

4. Large Windows

Choosing larger windows allows for plenty of natural light to fill your home.

4. Storage

This is something that is often overlooked during the planning stage. While you don't want to collect clutter, it is important to have adequate storage to keep your home organised.

5. Ask Lots Of Questions - Remember This is Your Home

If you are unsure ask lots of questions until you fully understand because once the slab is poured there is no turning back!
